Interview with Joanna Angel

image: Interview with Joanna Angel
1) What do you think about free speech and how does it impact you?
Well, since I am a producer of adult movies- Free Speech has a big impact on what I do. Even though what I do is completely legal and consentual - there are so many people in the world who are offended by sexual imagery, and these people have the power to violate my first amendment rights.

2) Are you ever worried about your rights being infringed upon or your rights to perform in films?
Well, I try not to worry too much because that is no way to live your life or run a business- however I am aware of the precautions I need to take as an adult producer and I am aware of the consequences for obscenity.

3) A lot of people try to make it out that women in the entertainment industry are forced to be there, and that they are forced into it and secretly hate it. Do you? Did you at any time feel exploited? Were you forced into it? Why do critics of the industry say things like that?
I love my job- in fact I love it so much that it turns me into an egomaniac. Every time I talk to one of my friends from college or high school and I listen to them talk about their jobs, I always think things like, man, my job is so much better than their job- I'm so glad I am me and not them! I certainly was not forced into the industry- if anything, I forced myself into the industry. I started my company (BurningAngel) in my senior year of college. If you don't know my company- we are a company that features girls with tattoos, piercings, and crazy colored hair. We started in 2002- and at the time, it was unheard of to put girls who looked like me in porno. I was determined to make my company suceede and I did everything I possibly could, in any city and any place to promote my company's name. In any case... porn did not come calling my name.... I basically waltzed into porn yelling my name and forced everyone to accept me... if that makes any sense. I don't know why critics want to think that girls are miserable in the industry- I think a lot people are scared to believe that women actually enjoy having sex and it isn't something they just have to do. .

4) Why do you think the adult industry is such a target for moral crusaders?
People see us as an easy target because a lot of people who watch porn and like porn- don't want to admit it... so a lot of people who watch porn, will still speak out against it. I think people just think we are an easy target. I don't exactly know. I am certainly not a moral cusader so I can't really answer this question =)

5) How did you get into the adult industry?
I took some naked pictures of myself and a few of my friends when I was in college.... put them online, and then... well... the rest is history.

6) A lot of the critics also say that all porn is "kiddie" porn or use younger looking girls. If you look at recent obscenity trials, prosecutors always bring this up and try to disguise the free speech porn issue as one of "kiddie porn". Could you talk a little bit about your experience in the industry? Have you ever seen or heard of any underage performers or producers knowingly looking for underage performers?

You don't just need to be 18 to do porn- you need to be 18 and have 2 forms of ID to prove it, and then the producer has to take photocopies of these two ID's and file them away in a very particular manner.... and if this is done even remotely incorrectly you could potentially go to jail for "kiddie porn." I am not trying to shed any light on people who actually shoot kiddie porn but there are people out there who were accused of shootign kiddie porn who actually just filed someones ID incorrectly. It is pretty ridiculous. There are absolutley no underage performers in the industry. I get a copy of everyone's ID who I hire, usually I get two forms of ID if they have them. I have had a few cases where the girl looked particularly young and I called the DMV with their license #s and inquired about them- and I am sure everyone else in the industry does the same thing. Working in the porn industry is a fun job, and no one wants to risk their job to shoot a 17 year old girl. Porn is not like it was in the 70's.... there are lots and lots of girls who want to do porn. We get so many applications from girls a day, we don't even know what to do with them sometimes. There are enough hot girls over the age of 18 who want to do porn- us producers have better things to do than walk around high-schools and look for people.

7) The content produced by people like Max Hardcore, JM Productions, Kink.com, pushes the envelope at times, which is what free speech is all about. Having been a performer who pushed the envelope, what do you think about it? What is "obscene" to you? Is it being whipped and spanked? Or is it doing a oral sex scene where you gag (JM Productions), or is it pee videos of Max Hardcore? Or is it "Cum on my tattoo"? Talk about that. Also, have you ever done a scene that you wondered was obscene?
Porn is just not obscene to me. There is porn out there I wouldn't watch, and porn I don't like- but there are also a lot of movies and TV shows I don't think I will like- so I just don't watch them. I wouldn't deliberaltely watch them and then try to arrest the people who made them. That would be ridiculous. The scene I won "most outrageous sex scene" for in 2006 was in my movie "Re-Penetrator". In the movie, I was a zombie who got brought back to life by a mad scientist - and I was really horny so I fucked the mad scientist to death. In the end of the scene I pulled out his intestines and chopped his arms and legs off and shit. It was very obviously, all fake. Other people found this to be "obscene" - I think anyone with more than three brain cells thought it was funny. Hey- zombie porn isn't for everyone.

8) Anything else you want to talk about: What is your website?
Just visit me and all my non-obscene porn with consenting adults at www.BurningAngel.com

Interview with Daisy Duxe

Saturday, December 20, 2008 by M. Dickinson

1) Talk a little about the evolution of the industry from your standpoint and the type of adult entertainment you make. Has the way the industry viewed you changed? Do you think that you have helped open doors for others? The adult industry is a constantly changing world. First dvd changed the way we did vhs…..not the internet is changing things more towards video-on-demand. Just when everybody thinks they have it figured out….it changes again. I shoot hardcore b/g and g/g films in the adult entertainment industry and have done so for 4.5 years. Even in that short amount of time I have seen major changes in the industry both for the good and the not-so-good. I don't feel like the industry's view of me has changed. Now days, it is the cool thing to shoot adult films and use the term "pornstar" which means that there are hundreds of girls added to the pool of talent everyday. It makes it that much harder to stand out….but it can at times make it that much easier to blend. I would not take credit for having opened doors for others….even though I know there have been plenty of people that have opened a door for me & given me an opportunity that I may have missed had they not given me the opportunity.

2) What is your interest in free speech? Have you always been interested in it? The longer I am in the adult industry as female talent, the more I realize the value of free speech. Everything we do from talking on camera to actually performing is a branch of our freedom of speech. I have not always been interested in free speech. It never seemed to affect me and the longer I am in the industry, the more I realize that our freedom of speech is being compromised by the government trying to impose on it by titling our "freedom of speech" "obscenity."

3) Do you think everyone in the industry cares? Or do you think there are only a few people who do? No, I do not think everyone in the industry cares about the free speech movement. I have worked with plenty of talent, both male and female, that are unaware of the obscenity laws and how the government is trying to use them against the entire industry. I would say that those who look at the adult industry as a career move are more concerned with our freedom of speech….even though most are still not taking actions to protect it.

4) What do you think about the stuff Max Hardcore/JM Productions do in there movies? Does it offend you? When I first heard about the Max Hardcore case and looked up some of his work, I was initially offended by it. However, the longer I researched it…the more I realized that as much as we have freedom of speech just to shoot adult movies & content……each and every talent has the freedom of speech to speak up if something is going on during a scene that he or she is uncomfortable with. I have worked with JM Productions before and I made it very clear what I would and wouldn't do and I wouldn't budge from those limitations….not matter what. I think that both male and female talent allow dollar signs to get in the way of their safety and health and then blame the producer when things don't go as planned. We, as talent, need to respect the producers enough to speak up about what we are comfortable doing and what we are not comfortable with doing so that we don't waste anybody's time. Then, if during a scene, things don't go as planned….have enough respect for ourselves to speak up….or if necessary walk away from a situation we are totally not comfortable doing. It is not the job of the producer to constantly ask if everything is okay or if the talent is happy…..his job is to make a good movie that people in his genre will enjoy……there will be some people comfortable with shooting his type of content and others that will not be comfortable shooting it…..it is up to us as the talent to determine that and use our freedom of speech to protect ourselves.

5) What is the most "offensive" or crazy thing you have done or been asked to do? did you do it anyway? A lot of things come to mind…..and the first advice I offer girls coming into the business is that they need to learn to stand up for themselves right away. If a girl can't stand up for herself then she will not do well in this business. I have been asked to go hunting, I have been asked to shoot a rough bukkake scene with 8 guys. I had a long talk with both producers so that it was very clear that we were all on the same page as far as what the producer was looking to capture and I asked a lot of questions to make sure that everything he wanted to capture was something I was comfortable with. Sometimes we were able to make small adjustments so that I could shoot the scene…..there have been other occasions where I ended up not shooting the scene because the producer was looking for details that I was not comfortable performing. No amount of money is worth a girl compromising her limitations, her health and safety to make a producer happy.

6) When you are shooting scenes and deciding what is going to take place, what do you think about? Do you think about sex acts or things that may be deemed offensive? Or do you just go with it, and not worry about it? When I am discussing a scene with an agent, producer, etc…..I typically don't think about how it will affect other people. If that were the case, then most of us would not be in the porn business because of how easily it can offend other people. In discussing a scene, I think about what my personal limitations are and if I am comfortable with performing all of the acts that the producer wants to capture. If a girl is 100% totally comfortable doing something that is offensive to other people then the decision to shoot it should be up to her. It really shouldn't matter how it affects other people unless the girl is being forced to do something she doesn't want to do.

7) I know you are very involved with shooting and producing. Can you talk about how strict the requirements are to be in a adult film? Alot of the critics always make the industry out to be a place that is out lure in the underage kids. How long have you been in the industry? Have you ever seen or heard of a company knowingly using a minor or producing child porn? The requirements to produce have been increased drastically, which I think is a great move. In my mind, it keeps every creepy Tom, Dick or Harry from picking up a camera and hiring a girl to "shoot a porn" just because he wants to get laid and have a copy of it. I feel like it weeds out the producers who are not serious about producing quality work. Even after 4.5 years I have never seen or heard of a professional porn producer that was targeting underage kids. Every producer I have come in contact with has done his best to ensure that the girls he is interested in hiring are of the legal age to shoot adult content. While it is popular to portray a girl who has just turned 18…..alot of my friends will shoot this type of content and the majority of them are no where 18 years of age…but are much older. I have only heard stories of perverts outside of the adult industry trying to produce child porn…..those kind of people would never make it in the adult industry.

8) What is america's fascination with sex? In most places, even in GA where I live…..sex is still very Taboo. Everybody does it….everybody has sex….but still many people find that it is something you shouldn't discuss…..much less broadcast. Anything that were not supposed to talk about has always intrigued us…..since we were kids. Its like telling a child a secret and then telling them not to tell everybody….that is the one thing they want to talk about the most. Most of our parents & grandparents were raised that sex was something that was done in private and it was personal and shouldn't be discussed……and most people still try to keep that idea to this day.

9) Anything else you'd like to add? Just be you……stand up for what you believe……and leave everybody else out of it! :)

Interview with Corina Taylor

Tuesday, November 25, 2008 by M. Dickinson

image: Interview with Corina Taylor
Corina Taylor is another legend in the industry and she recently took the time to answer some questions!

1) How long have you been in the industry? How did you get started? Have you had fun in the industry?

I have been a known perfomer since 2004 mainly due to appearances on the Howard Stern show( thanks Howard!). I got started by being a semi -finalist for a contest in Hustler magazine that I entered as a joke. I have had opportunities with my association with the adult industry that I have truly enjoyed.I have been able to travel to some cool places and meet some interesting people.I lived in Cali temporarily and I also found that pretty enjoyable.I am currently a full- time student working on my BA and my area of concentration is Political Science.

2) Are you concerned with the rights of the adult industry to make and produce movies/web clips?

I always just tell myself the ones who claim to have greatest issues or concerns with porn also more than likely have a large personal collection of porn under their beds or saved on their hard drives. The ones who are always the quickest to wave their fingers are the ones who should not be doing it in the first place. Actually, I think this applies to pretty much all issues.

3) A lot of the problem people have with the adult industry is the misconception that "pornographers"
are always trying to lure under age people in and make "kiddie porn". Could you talk about what it is actually like on a set, as far as having ID, signing model releases, having a AIM test, etc? Have you seen or heard of anyone in the legitimate adult industry knowingly using minors in films or the web?

I was lucky enough to have great agents in the industry and by great I certainly do not mean someone that I saw eye to eye with or even had my best interest at heart ,but someone who had the great connections with reputable companies and only ever booked me with those companies. The reputable companies will always have a signed model release , along with two forms of ID for proof of age and identity and a current AIM test that falls within the industry "standard" time frame of an acceptable current test result in order to work.I can only think of one time where an age flub-up occured and all scenes or products that were produced depicting the underage person were immediately pulled and destroyed. The industry AIM tests are required to be taken every 28 days and a performer always has to have a current test in order to work.I think that everything Sharon Mitchell has done with AIM is amazing and has saved so many lives and just really keeps the industry a healthy and safe environment to work in for the most part.

4) Do you ever get offended by shows like South Park or Family Guy? What do you think about shows/writing the offends people?

Absolutely not! I happen to be a fan of both. My 4 yr old actually owns a stuffed Stewie.I think that alone would answer this one.)I am huge fan of Marilyn Manson and he said one time something along the lines of this, that people should only feel offended if something specifically and directly applies to them.I totally agree with that.

5) What do you think about some of the stuff that pushes the limit in the adult industry, stuff like Max Hardcore, Kink.com, JM Productions?

I had Max Hardcore hunt me down through various agents, I would jump ship he would find me and offer me in his words to my last agent "top dollar" , but my words I had relayed back to him stated that I would gladly take his offer and perform in a scene under one condition and it was that I would be doing all of the disgusting and vile things to him like shit in his face ,etc. We NEVER worked together and I never got another call which was my ultimate and final goal pertaining to Max and his movies . Whatever happened to donkeypunch.com? That probably had to be the worst porn site I have heard of to date.I have never worked for those other two companies, either .I met some people from JM a few times and they were cool from what I remember.I am not into that area of porn and sex at all.I seriously avoid it.

6) Have you ever been asked to do a scene or something on film that you thought was crazy and wondered if it was offensive/legal? What was it? Did you do the scene or the act anyway?

I plead the 5th

7) Why do you think America has such a fascination with sex and with regulating sex?

I knew we had a sex obsessed society but , I did not know America has an obsession with regulating it, I think this is you talking jk. I always see people trying to censor sexual content and ban it rather than regulate it. Maybe it is a location difference and I see the south's reaction to sex . A lingerie store that also happens to sell sex toys can hardly stay afloat in the state where I live.
8) A lot of people in the industry have told me that most the people in the industry don't care about protecting free speech, or really about anyone other then themselves and their money. Do you think this is true? Do you think a lot of the people that are new to the industry care or have any concern about free speech and protecting the right to make movies?

I think that you may be taking what these individuals are saying wrong in regards to only caring about themselves and their money. That whole line just sounded really bad when I read it to myself.I think that performers for the most part look at making adult films as a job the same way any working individual does , as a means to make money or a paycheck .I think that is more along the lines of what they meant or at least I hope .A means to an end. As far as free speech, I think our government continues to try and take away as much of our right to freedom of speech as possible .Just turn on the news and you see instances of this all the while.

9) Is the "character" you play in your DVD's anything like you in real life?

"character" lol I love how its like quotated .No for the most part and yes in some ways or just two really. A character is pretty much who Corina is in comparison with who Victoria is.No I dont participate in multiple partner behaviors no I do not have anal intercourse in my personal life no I do not like being pounded by my partner..I am not even sure I like oral sex being done on me . ..I dont like it doggy style either sorry guys and so all those oh yeahs and I like thats are obviously for cam effects only.I surely do not eat cum out of assholes or cum swap with girls I know.I am really reserved and just real normal in that sense or what the consevative majority society ( thanks Eric) would say was normal in the sack.I am by far no sex goddess in the bedroom nor do I aspire to be. I do not keep a copy of the Guide to Getting it On on my night stand .All that being said I have had fans jokingly refer to me as being a prude and that really has nothing to do with it either. I just have yet to find true love in a partner that really makes me want to unleash my inner wild side and I dont wanna let loose with just anyone. I think that is a waste of time and energy. In my personal life, I am just not a fan of pointless and meaningless sex . I masturbate a lot because of this. I just jokingly asked someone today if it was possible to turn yourself gay with your own hand and fingers.I know this is most definately not the answer you most expected was it?I guess now you want to know how Victoria is anything like Corina in the bedroom and well its pretty much in two ways, one I am naked (usually)when I have sex (rarely)and two I really do like to swallow loads sometimes, but only if they are silky. That's about it.I am THE most undersexed person that I know to be honest.I have had so many that have tried to have sex with me just for the ego boost (whatever that is) of laying a pornstar and the very very few that have gotten in my pants, I made it a point to be as much of a dead fish lay as possible.I wanted to blow their fantasy .Does this make me an ass?

10) What is the craziest thing you have done/or scene you've been in on camera?

My mother always told me that swallowing was gross and that it made her sick and so gave me some mother/daughter advice on avoided getting sperm anywhere near my mouth and so I had never swallowed until I performed and the first swallow scene I was booked for was for multiple loads ten to be exact and well I survived the scene and I phoned her afterwards to tell her I swallowed and it was ten loads and I got nominated for an AVN for this scene for some reason and I am still not sure why , but thanks to whomever thought that was porn oscar worthy. It was funny though because I did get a bit nauseated and the directors were trying to feed me the teddy grahams in the yellow box... I know what made me sick though, it was the thicker loads, the chunky ones.I am guessing my mother had experiences with the chunky stuff. O.k. now that's a gross thought.Eww!!

11) Have you been involved with trying to change people's opinions about the industry?

The only opinons I have been actively trying to change are those of people who place all of these false generalizations on me because I was involved with the industry. The usual ones are I must be on or use illegal drugs -false. I am a prostitute-false-hell I pleasure myself lol. I must cheat -false .never cheat. There are just so many negative opinions I have dealt with . I could name 100.They all bother me because they are all false generalizations of who I am .I am never who I am pre judged to be by those who knew I performed at one time and had not yet met me .People wind up apologizing .

12) Why do you think the industry is so caught up on the portrayal of young- a lot of DVD's always say "18 & 19 years old" etc?

I think I pretty much got this answer in what I like to refer to as my sex class, but it is really an upper level psych course called Psychosexual Psychology. I love the class haha. Its great . Apparently youthfulness or baby- faced ness and that whole youthful look is apparently something that is wired to be found attractive and I think that porn directors use this whole youth market to appeal to larger amounts of people that will lead to more dvds being sold.In other words by nature, men esp., are pervs and wired that way.I hope that anwer came out right.I think it did.

13) What is your website?

I can be found all over the net even in some ways I wish I wasn't.I do have a facebook, I have never logged onto after I made the page lol and I am on myspace but it has been hacked/phished so many times that I rarely even use it. I still have my yahoo group ClubCorina at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/clubcorina

FYI..I do not own any paysites that have my pornname and photos splattered all over them ,so if you are going to these thinking that I do..I do not.

14) Anything else you'd like to add:

Yes..Thanks so much for having me on your site ! I had a blast answering all of your questions :) Also, I would like to apologize to my parents, yes they have always been supportive of me but I know that I have embarrassed them greatly at the same time .Also, I was just a victim of a 30 page religious based mail attack and I just want to let them or anyone else know that I will not be deterred by acts of ignorance such as this last attack. It is so disturbing that there are some people out there who get their jollies by doing that type of thing.Scary. I hope those individuals find peace in life. Thanks again for the interview ! XO

Interview with Meghan Chavalier

Monday, November 17, 2008 by M. Dickinson

image: Interview with Meghan Chavalier
It's rare when you can get a interview with someone who is a certified legend in the industry. However, a legend- Meghan Chavalier- took the time to answer a few questions about her time in the industry!

Check out her website at:
www.meganchavalier.com

How long have you been in the industry? How did you get started? Have you had fun in the industry?
I've been in the industry for 13 years. I started in 1995. When I first started I modeled for magazines, and that led to movies. I had alot of fun making movies up until the last year or so when the companies started underpaying performers and after that I decided it was time to opt out and try new things. It was really one of the best decisions I've ever made.

Are you concerned with the rights of the adult industry to make and produce movies/web clips?
I believe the adult industry always finds a way to make sure it's products make it to the multimedia. They complain alot about money but honestly these companies make alot of money, alot more than the people in their films that's for sure.

A lot of the problem people have with the adult industry is the misconception that "pornographers"
are always trying to lure under age people in and make "kiddie porn". Could you talk about what it is actually like on a set, as far as having ID, signing model releases, having a AIM test, etc? Have you seen or heard of anyone in the legitimate adult industry knowingly using minors in films or the web?

That's a huge misconception about the industry. Before you can even start a movie you have to prove your age with identification, prove your HIV status and sign off on many many pages of model releases. I have never once heard of any company, at least the ones I worked for and there were many, that ever used anyone underage. I think after the whole Traci Lords fiasco years ago, these companies learned that they had to take measures to insure that their companies were legit.

Do you ever get offended by shows like South Park or Family Guy? What do you think about shows/writing the offends people?
I actually love those shows. I think that if you find them offensive you're missing the point altogether. South Park always has a message, you just have to pay attention. The whole point is that you have these young kids who understand everything around them but the adults never seem to get it. It's quite brilliant writing actually.

What do you think about some of the stuff that pushes the limit in the adult industry, stuff like Max Hardcore, Kink.com, JM Productions?
On a personal level I find alot of these films borderline gross, but that's just me. I'm not a prude, but I just think the industry has achieved a whole new level of grossness when it comes to film making. I think there's a market for it, or they wouldn't be doing it, but I'd never do films like they make because they just don't mesh with who I am as a person and a performer. Besides the pay scale changing in the industry this was a whole other reason I got out, because it was starting to move in a direction I just didn't feel comfortable with anymore.

Have you ever been asked to do a scene or something on film that you thought was crazy and wondered if it was offensive/legal? What was it? Did you do the scene or the act anyway?
I've actually had the good fortune of not being asked to do anything bizarre on camera. I've had a few run ins with a few porn producers who thought they could get me to do certain things because of who they were in the industry. I actually had one guy, I won't mention his name, tell me if I didn't have sex with him I'd never work in the industry again. I told him to go fuck himself, and went on to do 80 more movies on my own terms. I don't bow down to anyone in life, I'm an independent person with a mind of my own, I don't need anyone telling me what I need to do to get ahead in life, I have my own map and I follow it.

Why do you think America has such a fascination with sex and with regulating sex?
Because America is a country that loves sex, but just doesn't like to talk about it. I mean look at all the politicians who get busted for being with hookers, caught in bathrooms etc. It's hypocritical but that's the way it is.

b] A lot of people in the industry have told me that most the people in the industry don't care about protecting free speech, or really about anyone other then themselves and their money. Do you think this is true? Do you think a lot of the people that are new to the industry care or have any concern about free speech and protecting the right to make movies?
I don't think people go into the industry thinking about Freedom Of Speech. I think they go into the industry thinking they'll get rich and famous, and after a couple of years they realize they'll get famous, but not rich. I don't think you really start caring about things like Freedom Of Speech until you get older and realize what it actually means to you as a person. Plus, many people get into it, get a little notoriety and think they're fucking Julia Roberts all of a sudden. It doesn't work that way. I've always said my fans are the raincoat crowd, the ones that jerk off in porn theaters. I've found a whole new fanbase with my books and music and my website Stopping The Hate. I definitely look back on my porn career fondly, but I've moved on, and many people moved on with me which is pretty cool.
